Code: c715 Provenience: Campo Pisano Mine, Iglesias, Sardinia, Italy Width: 90 mm Height: 70 mm Depth: 70 mm Weight: 775 grams The Campo Pisano mine, very close to the Monteponi mine (in the last years of activity the two mines were connected by a tunnel), gave collectable Anglesite specimens only once in its long (nearly 100 years ) history. During 1972 they found a small pocket with about fifteen good quality specimens, including less than ten top quality ones. The best ones were purchased by Angelo Balestrieri, a Cagliari collector and, not long after, few of them were sold to Wayne Leicht and brought to US. At that time I didn\\\\\\\'t succeed in purchasing any good specimens, this one was traded with a german collector some years later. It can be considered one of the best samples of the lot, even if not competitive with the four or five samples currently in the Balestrieri collection and brought to US that, at time, were considered among the best existing Anglesites. It consists in a galena matrix hosting a group of undamaged chisel shape striated crystals up to 3x2 cm. The natural colour is a bright slightly greyish white. Under long and mid wave length UV light the crystals are strongly white fluorescent. |
